This Navratri, Iām celebrating in a different wayānot with sweets, but with strength. Iāve joined a 9-day No Sugar Challenge led by Team Hello Fitness, who are also training me for my marathon. Today is Day 2, and I already feel the shiftānot just in my body, but in my mindset. This blog is about why I chose to say no to processed sugar, how it affected my fitness journey, and how Iām replacing it with natural, nourishing options.
š Why Processed Sugar Doesnāt Help in Fitness
Gives quick energy, but causes a crash soon after
Increases insulin resistance (body struggles to use sugar properly)
Triggers inflammation (swelling or pain in muscles and joints)
Creates addictionāthe more you eat, the more you crave
Slows down recovery and affects stamina
š« My Personal Struggle: Chocolate & Biscuits
I used to eat them when I felt tired, bored, or stressed
They gave comfort, but made me feel heavy and bloated
My cravings increased, and I felt less energetic during runs
I noticed mood swings and slow recovery after workouts
šÆ How Iām Replacing SugarāNaturally
Instead of quitting sweets completely, Iām choosing better options:
Jaggery (ą¤ą„औ़): Natural sweetener with minerals
Honey: Quick energy and easy to digest
Dates & Dry Fruits: Sweet, chewy, and full of fiber
Fruits: Natureās dessertāhydrating and energizing
Homemade snacks: Using jaggery or dates instead of sugar
These foods satisfy my sweet tooth and support my training.
āCravings donāt lastāclarity does.ā
This challenge is not just about food. Itās about choosing long-term health over short-term comfort. Every time I say no to sugar, I say yes to clarity, energy, and progress.
šµ Conclusion
Saying no to sugar during Navratri feels like a true celebration of self-control and self-care. Iām learning that fitness is not just about runningāitās about what I eat, how I recover, and how I think. If youāre starting your journey, begin with one small change. Replace one sugary snack with a natural one. Your body will thank you, and your mind will feel lighter. Letās celebrate this Navratri with clarity, not cravings.
